Are you religious? What is your religion, specifically? Do you think religion is a worthwhile endeavour?

I'm a Christian. Allow me to defend my decision to stick to that.
One might argue that the Bible is infallible, but it is not. People say the Bible contradicts itself, but when we get a good look at the big picture, it doesn't really. It's actually fairly consistent.

Bible's been confirmed to be the oldest religious book out there. Christianity, as such is the most influential of the religions.
I haven't checked all religions, but the ones I have contain big faults.
Here's another question for you all: why do you think religion exists?

To answer that excellent question, there were times when humanity felt scared and alone. There were times when people grieved, times where awe and wonder were felt (and humanity didn't have the answers people so desperately wanted). But, most of all, there were times when humans wanted to control other humans And in all these things, the creation of the gods was most useful. Religion may have been a necessary evil in the past, but humanity is growing up--and the time has come to put away childish things. And, of course, I'm an atheist. Who could've guessed?

People say the Bible contradicts itself, but when we get a good look at the big picture, it doesn't really. It's actually fairly consistent. I agree, it doesn't contradict. But sometimes translations may make it seem so. But when eventually looked at the true meaning you will see it doesn't. We can even find hidden meanings between the passages: lifeshandbook.wikidot.com/trivia:a-mathematical-errorbin: Well, you say that as if it's a fact, but there really isn't much proof that's the origin of religion. Yes, I agree Christianity was abused to make people submit, and be content with their difficult times(e.g:Industrial Revolution). As to the question of why (other) religion s exist is that (I think) it was indeed for some to have people submit. But perhaps for people who didn't hear about the true religion(excuse me for being 'biased' atm), and saw it was clear there had to be a God because of all the obvious signs the world has to offer(see Romans 1:20). And yes, I'm a christian. root and bin you should introduce yourself in the introduction topic.

Well, you say that as if it's a fact, but there really isn't much proof that's the origin of religion. Is there much proof a man walked on water? Or is that not the point? Should I be breeding my livestock in front of certain branches to bespeckle their offspring, like the Bible suggests? How can God put murderers' free will above keeping people from being murdered? How can the Bible claim that God created the perfect universe for us to live in? Should I go live on Mars because everywhere is totally perfect for humans to inhabit? There may not be enough proof to determine an absolute single point when religion emerged and under what conditions it came to be, but the Bible isn't exactly consistent. Even if it is, as you and root claim, it's nigh nonsensical. Hypocritical, even.

I have no religion, but I am curious and interested in learning about others' ideas, and these historical figures.

But I think there definitely is abundance of proof of God. Just how the earth works, the plants, nature etc... And the Biblical God seems to be the perfect fit for me.
